The project is a single-family residence located in Soto del Real, conceived with the aim of subtly expanding two bedrooms without altering the natural environment of the plot. The proposal seeks a lighter, more playful expression while respecting the traditional character of the houses in the Sierra de Madrid.
Orientation and views guide the design: the main façade opens toward the landscape, fully embracing the privileged views of the Santillana reservoir from all bedrooms, while the rear, north-facing side accommodates the bathrooms, which act as a thermal buffer for the living spaces.
The façade setbacks, the use of a traditional slate roof, and the extension of the original balcony allow the new addition to be fully integrated into the existing volume. Furthermore, the level of the new bedrooms continues that of the original ones, anchoring the intervention to the split-level section that organizes the structure.
The result is a composition of volumes that seeks a more welcoming and gentle presence on the site, evoking the feeling of a “tree house”: light, elevated, and in harmony with nature. This atmosphere is achieved through the exterior materiality, contrasting the heavier living room and kitchen volumes with the bedrooms. These rise on irregularly arranged pillars inspired by the surrounding tree trunks, providing shade to the new porch-viewpoint and allowing for a more organic relationship with the terrain. The overall composition allows the house to be perceived as a balanced assembly of elements, in constant dialogue with the topography and the landscape.
A project that combines lightness, constructive coherence, and respect for its surroundings, reinterpreting the family home in harmony with its natural setting.
